Apprentice, Jonathan Wadsworth has successfully got through his first 6-month module of his Modern Apprenticeship. Jonny, who joined Pipe Solutions in March 2004, already has an NVQ in Customers Services and is presently on day release at Leeds College of Building studying for a BTEC National Certificate in Building Services Engineering.
At the end of his 1st module in the warehouse, we asked Jonny a few questions and these were his replies.
Q1, Did you find this section interesting?
The warehouse was a completely new experience to me that I found very educational. It was a good place to start my training so that I could get to know our products better as well as our customers and suppliers. I also enjoyed being able to make a contribution to the company when the pressure was on to support our customers.
Q2. Do you think that the training was adequate for you to be able to perform duties in the warehouse?
Paul Boughton and John Thickett gave me a lot of support during my time there and I learnt a lot from them. It was also useful for my education when I had to work alone. This was quite a difficult period but I think I learnt more because of it. I was also issued with proper clothing to use in the warehouse that helped.
Q3. What features of the warehouse did you find most advantageous to your career?
I believe the whole experience will be an advantage to my future, not least because I had to work on my own and under pressure. But most importantly I have learnt a lot about the products, their codes and where they are used. This will be useful when I move on to the technical side. I also had contact with suppliers and customers that will also be useful to me in my next module.
Q4. Was the warehouse staff courteous and were they able to answer any questions you had?
The staff I have worked with over the last 6 months have been more than courteous and helpful. As well as learning a lot from them, I think I have built up a good working relationships with them and would like this to continue.
Q5. How would you rate the training on a scale of 1-10 (10 being a perfect score)?
Its difficult because its my first module, but I would like to give it 10 as I think I learnt so much and enjoyed the experience.
